Gothic art in Barcelona

Barcelona's MNAC Museum houses an excellent gothic art collection

The building of the MNAC museum (The National Museum of Catalan Art) was built in 1929 but not until 1934 was it transformed into a museum. Before it had been used an an exhibition hall for the Worlds Fair during 1929.

The museum has a beautiful collection, and one the best sections is the one containing Catalan Gothic art. Its works stem from the Catalan territories Barcelona, Aragon and Valencia.

The collection is maybe not as impressive as the Romanesque art collection (which is the finest collection of "primitive" murals in Europe) but there is a nice link between the two collections, which can be usefully viewed in relation to each other.
