Tossa de Mar - an outdoors museum

The most important and visited tourist attraction of Tossa de Mar is the Vila Vella, a medieval fortress castle located in the oldest part of the town, surrounded by the stone walls and the seven defence towers.

The famous ‘El Museu Municipal’ is located within the city walls in the Gothic governor's palace, built in the 14th century.

The museum contains modern works of art, unique exhibitions of artists who stayed in Tossa in the 30s (including Marc Chagall, J. Clarà, Josep Palau, Georges André Klein, Oscar Zügel, Olga Sacharoff,) as well as archaeological collections, Roman mosaics, coins and stone age implements.

In every street Tossa de Mar offers a work of art. During a stroll through the narrow alleyways of the Vila Vella you can see famous Sculptures of Catalan artists like Ció Abellí (el Monument a Ava Gardner) and Frederic Mares (Minerva).

Tossa de Mar has three main beaches: The Tossa Beach, La Mar Menuda, El Codolar, and a coastline of 13 kilometers.

A walk along the sea promenade is a good way to enjoy the sea and the spectacular views of the coastline.
